WoLF: Character Creation GuideGETTING STARTEDThe Basics of Creation♦Pre-looks: Got a character in progress or a finished character and we are not yet open, send us a note titled Character Pre-Look! We can review and give advice as needed and answer questions. Keep in mind though, a good pre-look does not mean guaranteed passing.♦Semi-realistic Design: Avoid markings and saturation that may not be natural for the animal in question. But pelt colors and eye colors have some freedom based on our guidelines! Can be more complex or can be simpler 1 color. ♢For more info check out the Design Rules and Guide or ask via pre-looks or the Discord Design help faq channel.Starting Tiers: Tiers are your status within the pack/guild! All Characters must start off as Tier 0! When first joining/returning this is what you will want. Some pack have special ranks that may be equal/less than or unrelated to Tier 0 those can be pursued with future characters or via Group-Made ranked adopts or special rules for gaining Tier 1 before acceptance for existing member-made characters!♦Heavily Inspired/Copied Character: Characters cannot be clones/copies of pre-existing fictional characters from TV, anime/cartoons, movies, books, etc. (Such as taking all personality directly from a wiki description of a character) This applies to characters from other RP groups by other players or other player characters currently in the group. ♢Heavily inspired characters or clones will be denied and you will be asked to make the character more original. This is regardless of whether or not the copy was intentional. ♢Hypopup designs used for the meme or another group's meme will need a verified approval from the other party(ies) involved in creation of the design that you are allowed to use it in WoLF. Designs too similar to one or the other parent will not be allowed in game unless they are a direct relative of said wolf (Parent or Offspring). ♢Carbon copy designs of an existing wolf with a different personality is only allowed in cases of direct offspring or twins who are direct siblings. ♢Simple designs with one or no markings, minimalistic albino/melanism or one color characters/other creatures may have similar designs so long as the character's personality/name/history is different enough to make it not a copy of another.♦Quirks for Pups: Pups need an in-game parent or official guardian to survive in the sanctuary. ♢Guardians must be in the same pack as the one the pup is applying for! ♢This may differ for in-game litters, if for some reason the parent/guardian exits play and it was not your own character, you will not be penalized! But it is recommended to find a role model, if a viable pack NPC is available permission can be granted by the pack admin. ♢In-game pups should resemble their parents in some way or grandparents. If they deviate too much from their parents, these designs may be rejected as they do not appear to be related to the family in any way. ♢In the case of a parent having a mutation that affects their appearance, grandparents may be used or the non-mutation parent. Similarly, in the case of a pup with a mutation that affects their appearance, they can deviate from the parent so long as the base colors/markings/fur features that are visible appear as if they would be related if the mutation was removed.♦Disabled Characters: If you create a disabled character keep in mind that they will not function the same as a normal and healthy animal. ♢Creatures with missing limbs will have issues hunting big game or they will have issues keeping up with a non disabled animal. ♢ Partially blind/deaf and fully blind/deaf characters are not DareDevil. ♢These animals may have trouble moving around unsteady terrain, they will need help hunting or even need food brought to them. They are not required to have a guardian but take into account the struggle they may have.♦Scars and Injuries: Pre-established scars are allowed but severe injuries (missing limbs, intense head wounds, large spread damage) will be judged case by case. Consequences of these injuries/disability/illnesses need addressed in the Related Deficiencies part of the application. ♢Injuries/scars must be realistic enough for them to survive in the wild or with human intervention. If you have doubts about an injury, please note the group to ask! ♢Severe injuries received in-group must be be pre-approved by the staff ensure they are realistic enough to work. Same refers to above mentioned disabilities that may of impacted their quality of life but could be rehabilitated. ♦Accessories: Characters cannot enter with accessories with the exception of ear tags (color dependent on species) or Radio Collars (black/grey/brown). These can be applied freely at creation, but must be noted via the shop if post approval.♦The use of Other Languages - For the most part, in WoLF, dialogue and written items should be done in English. Other languages known by a character can be used loosely but should make sense in-canon. ♢IE a character born into the sanctuary wouldn't be fluent in Russian for example. Dialogue should not only consist of a non-English language/dialect. ♢If English is your second language but would like to write in your native tongue, you are allowed to! Just be sure to link to a Google Translate/write the language name so staff can translate to read the page., Joining/Returning to the Group♦Active Characters: New members start with only one character in either a pack or guild and must be active for a full season (3 months) before bringing in their next character. ♦Application Levels Depending on what traits your character has, the more you need to write! ,Levels can be mixed but be warned that Capped Traits still need their full level amount! This is for all playable species!Capped LevelsThese are commonly picked traits for characters! But this is not the limit, for more information on the options + what is expected with mutations visit this link. CLICK ME,Animal Hermaphroditism: Link 1, Link 2Lunar Condition and Hybrids There is also a category called Extraneous that has a grouped cap, some are allowed to be made, some are breeding only! Such will be addressed in the trait/mutation document!Closed Traits: See the Public Records for population countsCharacter AgesOther animal ages will be based on the animal in question's lifespan and lifespan markers. How specific you choose to be with a character's age will soft lock you into an aging time frame. The more specific the less of a grace period, ex. Y/A claimed to be 3 years would become a Mature adult in 2 years IRL, If you specify only Y/A and not a year, that would give a 4 year grace period. This is most enforced on characters born in game or were added when younger than young adult.,Wolf Heights and WeightsFrom Pups to Y/A wolves MUST include their mature height/weight as well as their current height/weight!Puppies/Adolescents only need to put “Above Average, Average, or Below average" for their current pup/adol size. Other creature sizes will reference their species sizes.,Choosing a Pack/GuildWhen joining, please take into account what packs are priority and hold off on those that are closed. As of now, there are currently 9 starting areas to choose from. Your starting character must be in either a pack or a guild! (characters via certain adopts may differ) So be sure to read up on each pack’s culture and lore to pick the best choice for you and your character.Check out the info located here -> CLICK MEFilling Out your Application!Check the group's front page to see which packs/guilds are currently open! Your application MUST use one of these 2 formatsSimple Written Application Form or the Extended Written Application Form.Bios are allowed to link externally to a stash, other deviation, or a google doc. We must have permission to access it. If you choose to create your own format, you may do so only AFTER the character is accepted! And the listed information below must also be listed in a way as to be easily accessible. Ideally kept in the app description.THIS IS NOT THE FULL BIO FORMAT - PLEASE DO NOT ENTER CHARACTERS BASED OFF THIS ALONE. IT LACKS THE EXPLANATIONS/REQUIREMENTS OF THE SECTIONS.These sections MUST be visible and easy to find:NameAgeSex (what is assigned at birth, for potential breeding purposes.)Bloodlines/Other Creature SpeciesHeight/Weight(current/mature)Rare Traits/Birth TraitsRelated Deficiencies Pack/GuildRank/Task/StatusPersonality Pre-Group HistoryApplication for @WolvesofLunarForest !, Current Members - Bringing in More!♦Active Characters: Your first two characters are free and there is no limit on how many active characters you can have at one time. Once you have brought in your 2 free characters, more can be bought with Antlers. ♢New character applications must be noted to the group for purchase and overview! Use the regular purchase form found in the Main Shop Journal and include the new character's application sheet as a link at the top. ♢While there is no character limit to the group, if you are deemed to not be active enough for additional characters or have had issues following group rules, you may be barred from purchases for a set amount of time until your activity/behavior improves! This stoppage on characters is on a case by case basis and will be explained to you when a purchase is rejected.♦Tier 1 Rank New Characters: If you are a current member with an active activity record, you may create a new character for packs/guilds that allow for extant members to be created! A character may come with a pre-picked task/rank if your character meets the below additional requirements. ♢The Application must meet Level 2 in both Personality and Pre-group History sections! ♢There must be at least 150 words or more detailing how they achieved their rank and task! Be sure to check with the alpha in the pack you are applying into first before using the alpha in your history! ♢They must fit the pack/guild timeline! Be sure to read carefully as some packs/guilds are very new and some have had changes in leadership! ♢Be sure to review if you must still do a pack/guild's allegiance prompt! Just because they have a task does not necessarily mean they can skip this important step! Packs/Guilds that allow this to be exempted, you will still need to include completing this in their history for said exemption!♦Relatives/Characters from Existing Character Histories: While you are free to make these characters join the game, there's something one must consider before doing so (as well as before writing histories). Characters that are marked as deceased and described in the history as dead in a way that either clearly shows they died before a witness or strongly implies their death was witnessed, these characters are canonically dead within the world of WoLF and cannot ever be added as a character in-game. Characters marked deceased that are not mentioned in the history at all or the history describes their "death" in an ambiguous way (separated in a rockslide, fell down a cliff but not seen hitting the bottom, a shot rings out and they assume the other is dead but doesn't look back, etc) then they may be brought into the game as for all intents and purposes there is no confirmation of their death. However, characters that are not marked as dead may be brought in at a later date! Just bear in mind if you are only bringing in relatives, staff may stop you and ask you start branching out to explore newer/different ideas as every pack has interesting lore that could be used to branch out!♦Loner/Creature Characters: Loners and creatures can only be applied for after a players 3 month activity period. Purchases work the same as any other purchase for these sections - with the exception of Loners. Details on Loners can be found at this link [Click Me]Playable Species List You can find a large variation of animal inside the Lunar Sanctuary! ♢All animals on this list except fish are playable! If you'd like to play a species outside of this list, you may suggest it or ask in the discord! ♢Suggested species must be native to North America! This includes Canada, USA, and Mexico!Current Members - How Does Activity Work?♦Activity Incentives: We no longer have activity checks! Instead, we will note you to check on how you're doing if we haven't seen you around for a long time and ask if you'd prefer to leave the group if it's been quite some time. Instead, we will be rewarding active players for their efforts! ♢Reward Periods: These reward periods will still run on a seasonal basis with the earnings on the antler log resetting each month with a total earnings tracker where the average tracker once was. The seasonal timeline of 3 months per season are as follows: Winter: December, January, February Spring: March, April, May Summer: June, July, August Fall: September, October, November ♢Monthly Activity Rewards: If you manage to cash at least 8 antlers overall for your characters (can be only one character earning 8 or eight characters all earning 1!) you will qualify for the Monthly Activity Roulette! This is a smaller roulette that rewards cosmetic items or accessories. ♢Seasonal Activity Rewards: If you manage to cash at least 2 antlers per character you have active over the length of the season (can be broken up in any way - just has to add up to this number!) you will qualify for the Seasonal Activity Roulette! This version will no longer feature cosmetic items or accessories. Instead, it will feature rare or exclusive items you can only gain from this roulette! We hope this helps encourage members to strive for more activity! My Characters are in Play, Now what?Active CharactersPacks/Guilds with Allegiance Prompt Requirements: If your character joins a pack or guild with an allegiance prompt, you are required to complete this prompt within the time limit provided. Allegiance Prompts can be viewed on the Scent Marker page. Most packs with such a prompt give a 90 day window while Sanguis Cult and Na''em only allow a 30 day window due to how lore-heavy these two packs are. You can view how much time you have on the Antler Log in the last column of your character's row! Players who have not yet completed their allegiance prompt 1 week from due date for 30 day windows or 1 month from due date for 90 day windows will be temporarily frozen from making any purchases for the character or purchases for characters in other packs/guilds with allegiance prompts until such time that the prompt is completed. Failure to complete this prompt on time leads to an automatic forced-retirement regardless of activity for the character and they will also be barred from rejoining the pack the prompt was for. Repeated failures may result in a temporary bar from joining packs/guilds with allegiance prompts until such time staff feels the player is willing/able to complete an Allegiance Prompt.♦Buying/Giving Accessories: All accessories must be bought from the shop or a trader with the antlers you have earned. Items are soul-bound to each individual character unless stated otherwise! Bound items can only change via designated shops. These items will be added to your inventory in Public Records. They are not applied upon purchase, that is a separate note/use. More info can be found in the shops.♦Design changes: All design adjustments post-approval/purchase need approved by staff! This includes accessories and severe scars or potentially impairing damage to ensure they are realistic enough to work! ♢Small scars are permitted to be added without approval so long as there is some context for it in-game. Same with updates to artwork, just be sure to not add/alter in physical extremes that may not be allowed♦Switching Packs/Guilds: Members must wait a full season (3 months) before their starter character may switch out of their first pack/guild. Any switching afterwards, requires a month wait. ♢Ideally there should be a canon reason for their change and please be sure to cash for art posted while in the previous pack/guild. So the new pack doesn't get an unfair advantage over the old. ♦Killing Your Characters: If you decide to kill a character you are rewarded with a full refund for said character’s slot. (IE: If this is your 3rd character, you'll be refunded 15 antlers.) This is to reward those that kill characters for IC plots or group plots. ♢The character MUST die for a reason (IC plots or group plots) and not because you were bored or because you changed your mind! ♢When deceasing a character, please note the group with the title Deceasing Character - (NAME) with a link to the in-canon death piece in the body of the note, with the purchase number the character is and which character you would like to give the antlers to! ♢♢ When using the Will of the Past during deceasing, please use the form listed for the item. ♢♢ Remember that deceasing a character in-game cannot be taken back! They will never be able to return in game and their remaining antlers will be lost forever.♦Retiring Out of Play: If you wish to get rid of a character but not kill them, you may retire them. Retiring a character does not earn you any antlers and you may retire/unretire a character as many times as you like. If a character has a capped trait then you'll need to make sure there slots open for that trait. ♢To properly retire a character you must draw/write an "exit" piece. Exit pieces can be collabs, rps, normal artwork, or lit! This exit piece must meet the same requirements as an antler-worthy piece at a minimum! Exits that do not fit this criteria will be rejected. ♢♢Note the group a link to your retirement piece with the following title:"Character Retirement - [NAME]" Staff will then reply to your note that the character was retired and with how many antlers. ♢If you unretire a character, you must pay the antler price to make them active again.♦Retiring to Secondary Characters: This functions the same way as normal retiring however, your character gains the Secondary status + should be marked as such on your application! This character stays in play and can still earn antlers, buy ranks, etc! However, they will not contribute to the pack or guild's Apex Predator Earnings. ♦Transferring Characters to a New Player: If you decide to give a retired or existing character to another player, please read these rules below to know what happens and what is and is not allowed in this regard! ♢ Characters born through In-Game Breeding System: You may only return a pup adopted or given to you back to the parent players, who will then decide whom to transfer it to! In-game born pups will keep their antlers and any already applied items during the transfer to a new player. In such case where the pup has been previously retired by the original player and is returned to them again, they only keep the antlers/items applied when they were first retired. ♢ Characters transferred to a new player from original creator: You may pass on a character you created to a new player - however the following will happen in these cases: ♢♢ No antlers or items may follow the character to the new owner. They'll start at 0! However, already applied items will follow them. ♢♢ Depending on the pack or if the character is returning from retirement to a new player, they may be reset to Tier 0 as well. ♢♢ The new player will need to write the personality in their own words and fill in extra history equal to our minimum requirements to fill in any gaps (or to fill in what has occurred in game thus far as this will be the character's new "prehistory" under the new player. ♢♢ Your rights to the character are lost forever in this case within the world of WoLF! You will not be allowed to just take it back - but will have to ask for it from the new player. They have the right to refuse. This character also cannot be transferred again to a new player or back to the original player. They will need to be permanently retired or killed in-game as this sort of transfer is a one-way ticket! ♢♢ Transferring a character in WoLF does not transfer overall rights. This only applies to the character as they exist in WoLF. If you choose to create an AU version in another game, it's still your character and you can do so! You just lose the right to use them in WoLF yourself ever again.Official Secondary Characters (NPC Marker)These characters do not contribute to Apex Predator or Pack Earnings!Once you've been in the group a full season (three months), you are able to make a Secondary Character. Secondaries are characters often used to push plots forward and are marked with the NPC lettering in the lower right hand corner of their application sheet. They can be friends, loved ones, or even enemies from their past, and other possibilities.♦There is no official limit to the number of Secondary Characters a player may have! Since they do not contribute to Apex Predator or Pack Earnings, they are also not capped in membership in a pack or guild by a single player.♦Secondaries may be moved to your active character slots if you pay the new character fee. Pack Secondaries (NPC Marker)Admin/Alpha Made SecondariesPack Secondaries are group owned Wolves or Creatures- These characters are implemented for the purpose of interaction. These usually take the spot of a high ranking individual so a 'mentor' may be available. ♦The Amount of Pack Secondaries will depend on the pack but will adhere to the groups character creation rules. ♦While they may be used as a stepping stone, pack secondaries should not be involved with certain plot points without noting the group for permission from the relevant Alpha. (Murder, Kidnapping, Major Injury, Guardianship, etc) ♢Note: Be sure if you do Feature a Pack Secondary you do try to stay true to their personality.♦Like other Secondaries, they can earn antlers as well, but only if the Alpha is collabing/roleplaying them. Their earnings also do not contribute to Unofficial NPCs♦This includes any characters that might be featured but do not have official applications. These are very limited, overuse in certain contexts can lead to submissions being denied and lead the WoLF staff to urge you to make it an official character before any more inclusion.♦Unofficial NPCs have a maximum use of 3 inclusions before they must be registered unless it is for flashbacks that occur prior to your character's official entry into WoLF!♦Here are a few examples of fair use of Unofficial NPCs/Characters ♢ Flashbacks of parents, enemies, events in a characters life. If there are any present time instances it shouldn't be more than thrice. ♢ Unspecified wolves/rogues/creatures for a singular purpose, such as a hunt, a kill for your pack, fulfilling a prompt, etc. Generally to push a character's development, a one off creature should not be used to give yourself information that was not formally agreed or approved out of character. Such as a private packs location or learning backstory on someone's character just because. ♢ AT NO POINT should a player create a fake pack/herd/flock/etc that affects the game in a powerplay/godmodding way. A mysterious pack of wolves that are not canon cannot interrupt and defend your character from attack, nor can a flock of ravens tell your character what's going on outside of the character's actual range of sight and hearing. Herds can be hunted and packs can be mentioned in histories but neither should stand as a titular force in any art/literature that affects the gameplay drastically.  WoLF: Character Creation GuideGETTING STARTEDThe Basics of Creation♦Pre-looks: Got a character in progress or a finished character and we are not yet open, send us a note titled Character Pre-Look!

Basic Rules

Pre-looks - We always accept pre-looks as long as they are noted to the group!
♢ This is for archival purposes.

Character designs need to be semi-realistic - Characters may have a fully realistic design you'd seen in the wild or it can be as simple as the designs from Wolf's Rain or Balto.

♦ Design changes - All design updates, no matter how small, MUST be preapproved by the staff. This includes accessories and scars to ensure they are realistic enough to work!
♢ Please send the group a note including the character's current app and a sta.sh/offsite image showing the changes you plan.

Starting Tiers - All Characters must start off as Tier 0! The only exceptions to this rule are special, pre-ranked adopts offered by the admins of WoLF ONLY!

Switching Packs/Guilds - Members must wait a full season (3 months) before their starter character may switch out of their first pack/guild. Any switching afterwards, requires a month wait.

Heavily Inspired/Copied Character - Characters cannot be clones/copies of pre-existing fictional characters from TV, anime/cartoons, movies, books, etc.
♢ Heavily inspired characters or clones will be denied and you will be asked to make the character more original. This is regardless of whether or not the copy was intentional

Active Characters - New members start with only one character in either a pack or guild and must be active for a full season (3 months) before bringing in their next character. Your first two characters are free and there is no limit on how many active characters you can have at one time. Once you have brought in your 2 free characters, more can be bought with Antlers.
♢ New character applications must be noted to the group for purchase and overview! Use the regular purchase form and include the new character's application sheet as a link at the top.

♦ Loner/Creature Characters - Loners and creatures can only be applied for after a players 3 month activity period. Purchases work the same as any other purchase for these sections - with the exception of Loners. Details on Loners continues below.
♢ Loners can only be purchased based on player's activity and judged on a case by case basis. Lapses in activity, constant minimum activity only, only a stint of one piece per month, or only interacting with one player may not be enough to warrant a player to purchase a loner.
♢ Players may no longer have only loner characters unless they only have one character and that character had been transferred or previously added as a loner when they had more than one character.
♢ Players already having only loner characters will not be allowed to transfer/purchase any more until they have pack/guild characters added to their list. Players who attempt to transfer a character from pack/guild to loner and it would create an only loner list for that player (except in 1 character situations), that player will be asked to choose another pack/guild or opt to force retire the character instead.

Guardians - Pups need an in-game parent or official guardian to survive in the sanctuary. You may either post on the front page’s comment section or simply ask around.
♢ Guardians must be in the same pack as the one the pup is applying for!

Killing Your Characters - If you decide to kill a character you are rewarded with a full refund for said character’s slot. (IE: If this is your 3rd character, you'll be refunded 15 antlers.) This is to reward those that kill characters for IC plots or group plots.
♢ The character MUST die for a reason (IC plots or group plots) and not because you were bored or because you changed your mind!

Retiring Your Character - If you wish to get rid of a character but not kill them, you may retire them. Retiring a character does not earn you any antlers and you may retire/unretire a character as many times as you like. If a character has a capped trait then you'll need to make sure there slots open for that trait.
♢ To properly retire a character you must draw/write an "exit" piece. Exit pieces can be collabs, rps, normal artwork, or lit! This exit piece must meet the same requirements as an antler-worthy piece at a minimum! Exits that do not fit this criteria will be rejected.
♢♢Note the group a link to your retirement piece with the following title:
"Character Retirement - [NAME]"
Staff will then reply to your note that the character was retired and with how many antlers.
♢ If you unretire a character, you must pay the antler price to make them active again.

Buying/Giving Accessories - All accessories must be bought from the shop or a trader with the antlers you have earned. Items are soulbound to each individual character unless stated otherwise! These items will be added to your inventory in Public Records. They are not applied upon purchase, that is a separate note/use

Disabled Characters - If you create a disabled character keep in mind that they will not function the same as a normal and healthy animal.
♢ Creatures with missing limbs will have issues hunting big game or they will have issues keeping up with a non disabled animal animal.
♢ Partially blind/deaf and fully blind/deaf characters are not DareDevil.
♢ These animals may have trouble moving around unsteady terrain, they will need help hunting or even need food brought to them.

Scars and Injuries - Pre-established scars are allowed but severe injuries (missing limbs, intense head wounds) will be judged case by case.
♢ Injuries/scars must be realistic enough for them to survive in the wild. If you have doubts about an injury, please note the group to ask!
♢ Severe injuries received in-group must be be pre-approved by the staff ensure they are realistic enough to work.

The use of Other Languages - For the most part, in WoLF, dialogue and written items should be done in English.

♢ If a character is to make reference to a non-English language, their history and application must list and provide realistic exposure to this language. This group assumes animals would pick up similar languages used by the humans in the areas they came from; so if the humans do not know it, then the animals would not know it.
Keep in mind, the staff has the right to refuse use of a language if abused or if exposure to it would not fit with WoLF lore.
♢ Even if another language is desired, dialogue should not be written entirely in the other language. Dialogue should be written "in italics in English, thus implying another language". [See a pinned message in the FAQ room in the group Discord for more explanation.]
Dead languages are not allowed under any circumstance.

♢ However, we also anticipate cases where English might not be someone's strongest language. In cases like that whole entries such as literature would be allowed in their language. That meaning the whole thing, not just dialogue for nuances, so that non-native speakers can have a chance to participate, as well.
But for relatively fluent English speakers, please, keep dialogue in English ^^/

if I'm new to a pack, in the app of the character, about the rank/task/status, could I say "open" (when first entering) in case that I don't know what I want, or for the pack members to suggest a needed task?
